Title - "Amber Waves of Grain"
Altarpiece Series
Description - The fountain is a tribute to my grandfather and his connection to nature. I was often asked as a child how I got such a beautiful name so I made up a story that my Grandpa was standing in one of his wheat fields when I was born. I imagined a sunset illuminating his tall silhouette and that broad quiet smile. When a child visiting my grandparents, I watched my father kill a rattlesnake in the burned down church by beating it with rocks. The church was built of stone and surrounded by wheat grown taller than myself. Walking through the fields that afternoon I tried hard not to wake any napping snakes so as to spare them the same fate. The sculpture pays quiet tribute to that snake and a connection I felt to the land through a grandfather whose large hands carved an impression on a little girl who needed a story to explain her name.
