Raccoons are known for their cunning, adaptability and remarkable problem-solving abilities; perhaps that is what drew me to sculpt a raccoon as we entered the second year of COVID quarantine.

I felt pure joy as this contemplative critter’s personality blossomed in clay - those clever little paws, inquisitive face and a quiet sense that Raccoon just might know something I don’t.

Raccoons are wonderfully resourceful beings. Curious, persistent and endlessly adaptable, they have an uncanny ability to make their way through an ever-changing world. This little one carries some of that spirit… a reminder to stay curious, improvise when necessary and keep finding a way.

Bringing Raccoon into bronze required a little of that same adaptability. Two of the three bronze foundries I’ve used for decades closed during the post-COVID years, making the journey from clay to bronze much longer than anticipated. The collectors who patiently waited for their little Raccoons assured me he was totally worth the wait.

Fitting snugly right in the palm of your hand is a small bit of wildness, curiosity and a resourceful spirit.
