Mouse began with a story that was simply too delightful not to sculpt.

One of the elementary schools in the Montana town where I grew up eventually became a community art center. Its director told me how, years earlier, that school had acquired its rather unlikely mascot when a little mouse discovered a particularly generous teacher.

Day after day, the clever little beggar would emerge from behind an old classroom radiator, sit up and ask for crumbs. The teacher obliged. Mouse returned. And returned. Eventually this tiny opportunist became so beloved that the school adopted a mouse as its mascot.

How could I resist?

I created this little beggar for the art center's annual fundraiser, where a special edition of 25 sold out within minutes. I loved Mouse too much to stop there, so another edition was born and this wonderfully expectant and impressivly plumb little critter became part of my Palm-Size Bronze family.

Perhaps that's part of the enduring charm of mice. Tiny and easily overlooked, they somehow manage to live right alongside us; curious, resourceful, persistent and remarkably good at finding their way to exactly where the crumbs are.

Each Mouse is cast in solid bronze, individually finished and patinated by hand, so no two are exactly alike.
