Otters fascinate me. I had no idea what I was getting into when I began attempting to sculpt one. Their bodies are a perfectly odd mix of rodent and seal, and the playful grace I’d witnessed in wild otters was wonderfully deceptive when it came to figuring out exactly how those land-and-water bodies are put together.

So I began two, trying to figure them out.

As I sculpted and found my way into each one’s presence, it dawned on me that of course they had to exist in the world together.

Otters are wonderfully social beings; playful, curious, affectionate and deeply connected to one another. They seem to embody something we humans can easily forget: the importance of play, companionship and moving joyfully with the currents of life.

What emerged from my hands was this inseparable pair, forever engaged with one another.

Dainty. Detailed. Delightful.

Since their debut, these two have found their way into homes as treasured symbols of love and companionship, often chosen to celebrate anniversaries and the joyful dance of enduring partnerships.

Each little sculpture is cast in solid bronze, individually finished and patinated by hand, so no two are exactly alike.
